How to Make a Simple Bathroom Curtain

I’m taking one step at a time remodeling my bathroom. It is in desperate need since it has been 30 years. We started with a shower install. It is glorious. We went with a new color, gray and white. I like to stretch our dollars, so the rest is going to be do-it-ourselves! The first thing I want to share is how to make a simple bathroom curtain.

First

Measure your window

Next

Pick out your fabric. I chose a gray kona cotton fabric. Furthermore, I decided to make it a valance so more light would come in. The bottom of the window is not clear glass. It’s more opaque, patterned, or mottled, whatever you call it. You get the idea. lol

I am going to walk you through the measurement of my window. Adjust yours, according to the measurement of your window. You can do it!

These instructions are made to fit a 3″ curtain rod plus a header of 2 1/2″. (A ruffle above the rod)

Measurements

The width of my window was 34″ wide. The length I was aiming for was 26 1/2″ long.

Double the width. 34″ times 2 is 68″ (doubled). This will give you a good amount of gathers. I purchased 2 yards, which is 72″.

For the length of 26 1/2″ that I wanted. I added 6″ for seam allowances for the header and 2 1/4″ for the hem, to total 34 3/4″ (I cut to 35″)

Cut

Wash, dry, and iron your fabric.

Square up the edge.

Cut off the selvages.

Cut to your desired measurements to fit your window. This is best accomplished using a rotary cutter, mat, and a quilting ruler. But, Scissors are totally acceptable also.

Sew

Turn under 1/4″ on the sides and press.

Turn under another 1/4″ and press.

Sew a seam 1/8″ away from fold.

To continue, sew another seam 2 1/2″ from the top. This is easiest to do by putting painters tape on your machine to measure your distance.

Turn up, pin, and press another 2″.

Conclusion

In conclusion, you have measured, cut, pressed, and sewed, for a valance for your window for a 3″ rod with a header and a hem.

You are ready to hang that bad boy.

Congratulations, I knew you could do it.

I’ll share more of my bathroom remodel as we get to it!
